“Come quickly, I am tasting the stars!”
The world has fallen (and continues to fall) in love with Champagne. So this Valentine’s let’s fall in love with the World's first-ever and oldest Champagne House - Ruinart. If you haven’t already fallen in love with Champagne, then now’s your chance to Savour Small Moments with Ruinart … Ahem .. I mean … with your loved one/Valentine of course!
Ruinart is the embodiment of history as it’s the Champagne region’s first established Champagne House since 1792. Dom Thierry Ruinart at an Abbey near Paris (the symbolic city of love!) learned of a new “wine with bubbles” popular amongst young Parisian aristocrats. He brought this new idea back to Reims - the heart of the Champagne region - and the charter of Maison Ruinart, the World’s first ever Champagne producing company was drafted.
Ruinart Brut is a harmonious balance of fresh Chardonnay (40%) combined with well structured Pinot Noir (40-45%) and fruity Pinot Meunier (10-15%) grapes. Every year this harmonious taste is the ambition of the winemaking team with contemporary innovation. Only the best of fruit from 40-50 cru vineyards are blended together to create this harmonious and elegant wine. The maturation of this wine in the Crayere cellars (dug out by hand in the 1750’s) is what allows the juice/wine from all three of these grapes to harmonise and that maturation time is a minimum of 2-3 years for Ruinart Brut. This time of rest and maturation is what gives this Champagne its signature taste.
Speaking of taste, if you’ve yet to taste these beautiful historical bubbles then I won’t spoil it too much. But I will say that the fruits are golden like ripe freshly baked plum tart balanced by the fresh finish of Chardonnay that lingers as you savour every last drop.
If the act of giving a bottle of Ruinart Champagne (albeit small) doesn’t impress your Valentine enough, then how you serve it and knowing its signature serving ritual will surely seal the deal!
- Chill to a cool 8 degrees Celsius
- Remove the cage from the cork and twist the bottom of the bottle until the cork releases with a gentle romantic ‘phut/pop’ sound
- Pour slowly at an angle into a tulip glass or a glass with a wide enough rim to allow full expression of the aromas and evolution of the bubbles
- Savour this Moment!!
So I think it's fair to say that there is something about Champagne that supersedes that gift of a safe bottle of wine. Champagne symbolises a moment, a point of interest, a reason to smile and of course it gets the heart racing.
Champagne very rarely disappoints, and yes, it may be a predictable nod to romance; but Champagne reminds us of what it is that we really love about wine. So let’s not misunderstand Champagne this Valentine’s and let’s give it, and your Valentine the full attention it deserves. If you and your loved one love Champagne, then Savour Small Moments with Ruinart Champagne this Valentine’s and enjoy that special heart racing feeling as the glass of bubbly champagne is being poured.
